Police confirm changes to Coolangatta-Tweed border checkpoint

Scott Emerson

Police will reconfigure the state’s border checkpoint on the Gold Coast Highway into two lanes for truck drivers and other drivers looking to enter the Sunshine State.

It’s understood that the change comes amid an increase in congestion at the border checkpoints as more people in NSW have become eligible to travel into Queensland.

The checkpoint will be split into two lanes as of 5am tomorrow, Scott Emerson reported.

“One of the lanes will solely be used for freight vehicles to pass into Queensland and undergo the necessary checks for truckies,” he said.

“While the other will be used for all other vehicles coming into the state with appropriate border passes.”
