$3220 up in the air for new mum as quarantine invoice delays drag on

Thousands of Queenslanders who slogged through hotel quarantine are being plagued with lengthy delays over the bill.
The state has issued 76,884 invoices to people who stayed in mandatory hotel quarantine with more than 19,800 those applying to have their fees waived.
So far, only 4623 requests have been approved despite it being months since the applications were lodged.
Emily Bengree says she waited five months for her bill and hasn’t heard back in the three months since she applied for a waiver.
She told Neil Breen she returned from New Zealand in October last year while 27 weeks pregnant.
“I was located on the Gold Coast,” she said. “It was fine; we were just confined to the room, there was no balcony or anything.
“I applied for the waiver because I also had really bad vomiting during pregnancy and because of the stress associated with quarantine, I vomited every food up that I was given.”
Ms Bengree said she desperately needs the money she’s put aside for the bill for her child’s room, which was hit by February’s floods.
“There was a 30-day reply back from the government that’s given for the waiver but it’s passed that and it’s still nothing.”
