10-year plan to address rates of violence against women and children

A draft plan by the federal government hopes to end violence against women and children with a 10-year policy.
The policy is split into two five-year strategies, which offer support for essential services such as emergency housing and legal advice.
Prevention, intervention, response and recovery are the four pillars which underpin a draft plan to end violence against women and children.

Greater focus will also be placed on creating national definitions for key terminology.
Minister for Women’s Safety Anne Ruston told Joe Hildebrand it will create meaningful change.
“What we’re seeking to do by the next national plan is build on the evidence we’ve collected from the last national plan and make sure that what we’re doing going forward, are real, they’re tangible and actionable actions so that we can start turning the dial on this.
“There has been a big investment in addressing family, domestic and sexual violence and yet all to often the figures remain all too high.”
