Young boy on the mend after dingo attack on K’gari

Bill McDonald

A young boy is on the mend after being attacked by a dingo at a K’gari campsite yesterday.

The five-year-old suffered injuries  to his head, arm and buttocks in the attack and was flown to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour told Bill McDonald on 4BC Summer Mornings he understands the situation would have been distressing.

“From what I’ve heard, the young boy and the family weren’t doing anything wrong, they weren’t provoking the dingoes, as far as I’ve heard,” he said.

“It’s just a very sad circumstance.”

But Councillor Seymour says it’s a reminder for people on K’gari to be safe around dingoes.

“[Don’t] approach dingoes, don’t feed them; if you’re caught feeding them, the fine is astronomical.”
