A Rockhampton woman will front court today, charged with the murder of an eight-year-old boy. 

Police were called to a Berserker home to perform a welfare check in the early hours of Saturday morning, where the body of a boy inside.

A crime scene was established at the Waterloo Street property and a 36-year-old woman, who was known to the boy, was taken in for questioning.

She was later charged with his murder and will appear in Rockhampton Magistrates Court today.
