Will Smith’s Oscars attack exposes impact of Hollywood cancel culture
Neil Breen is calling out Hollywood’s elite for refusing to comment on Will Smith’s Oscars attack.
A furious Will Smith stormed the stage at the Academy Awards yesterday and appeared to strike comedian Chris Rock over a joke that referenced Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head.
Pinkett Smith has previously spoken about living with alopecia, which causes hair loss.
“There is absolutely no place for violence at all,” Neil Breen said.
“If I’d got up this morning and read that Will Smith and Chris Rock got into an altercation at the Vanity Fair party and had words about the joke he’d made about his wife, I’d have admired Will Smith.
“I would’ve said ‘Good on him for taking it on!’
“But to hit him in front of a worldwide audience was a coward’s way out.”
Neil Breen said what was more disappointing was to find Smith’s fellow actors hadn’t called the behaviour out.
“Everyone these days is so scared of being cancelled,” he said. “Everyone is petrified of being cancelled.
“To hit someone in such a public way is not on.
“I just think it shows we’re in a place in the world where people are too scared to speak their mind.”
