There are warnings today the number of bulk-billing doctors will continue to decrease, with Medicare failing to keep up with the costs of consultations.

Doctors say it’s now “financially unsustainable” to continue bulk billing and less than a third are offering it to patients in Brisbane.

Cleanbill founder James Gillespie told Greg Cary cost-of-living and business pricing pressures are behind the rise in prices.

“They’re having to work to their own standards, maintain their standards despite those pressures,” he said.

“I think if those pressures continue, we would probably continue to see a decrease in the bulk-billing rate.”
