Queensland is one of the last jurisdictions in Australia that protects the identities of accused rapists, even after the accused is charged.

But the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce is exploring the issue, among others, and wants to hear from women about their own experiences.

Senior legal counsel at Potts Lawyers, Bill Potts, said the criminal code was written back in 1900, and it has been regularly updated as social views change.

He said was time for people to raise their voice and share their views.

“Ultimately it’s a decision that the government is going to have to make as to whether they will follow whatever recommendations and views the taskforce has,” he told Scott Emerson.
