Australians are urged to take advantage of a jobs boom ahead of Christmas.

More than 280,000 employment opportunities are up for grabs as restrictions lift and wages rise.

Employment Minister Stuart Robert told Neil Breen there’s no shortage of work, with almost 50,000 jobs available in Queensland.

“What’s really interesting and really encouraging, especially for those Australians who don’t have a lot of skills, is there are hundreds of thousands of low- or semi-skilled jobs.

“I’m going to put pressure on the jobactive network to start ensuring Australians who are on payment are actually applying for those jobs.

“There are many, many hundreds of thousands of Australians on payment. No excuses now – go out and get a job.”
