The Maroons side for the first State of Origin clash will feature a mix of seasoned stars and fresh faces.

Coach Billy Slater has made sweeping changes to last year’s losing side, opting for four debutants in jerseys 1-17.

Two debutants, Selwyn Cobbo and Jeremiah Nanai, each have less than 20 NRL games under their belts.

Meanwhile, Titans star David Fifita, who has featured for the Maroons five times since 2019, missed selection.

Maroons selector Darren Lockyer told Sofie Formica the poor performance of the Titans didn’t serve some players well.

“Probably a few of the players that were missed probably have been, I guess, a reflection of the Titans’ form. It hasn’t been great,” he said.

“When you’re not in form as a team, the little things aren’t being done well.

“That’s probably the big thing a coach looks at when you go into these games: all the players have got good habits currently.

“Unfortunately for some, the form of their club hasn’t helped their chances.”
