Why some pubs are ditching the humble side salad

The humble side salad could be on the way out as the rising cost of ingredients hits publicans’ purses. 

Some South Australian pubs are considering dropping the often overlooked plate staple.

Breenie noted the side salad is integral to cutting through “the grease of that chicken schnitzel”.

“You’ve gotta get into your side salad!”

Publican Greg from Quinalow told Breenie the salad isn’t going anywhere in his pub.

“Mate, what we do is we don’t use the iceberg lettuce,” he said. “We stopped using that years ago.”
