The Opposition Leader believes at least nine Queensland seats are in play as the federal election looms.

Two new opinion polls show Labor is likely to be propelled into government next month.

Campaigning in Brisbane, Anthony Albanese says Queensland could hold the key to his victory.

4BC federal politics editor Michael Pachi told Rob McKnight while the polls are looking good for Labor, there’s a strong chance it won’t be the roaring victory they’re after.

“I just don’t believe that the numbers are that great for Labor,” he said. “I think that Labor will probably get over the line, I’m not denying that, … but not by the margins we’ve seen reported.

“I would still not be surprised if what we’re seeing on either May 14 or May 21 is a hung parliament where either side of politics, if they want to govern in their own right, they’re going to need to form some sort of alliance with the independents.”

Pachi said a focus on Queensland is potentially misguided, with another state holding the power to dash the Coalition’s election hopes.

“The problem for Scott Morrison and the Coalition is NSW. There’s a lot of problems in the NSW branch of the Liberal Party.

“They’re a very divided party and if they don’t sort themselves out, it’s potentially going to be NSW, not Queensland, that’s going to cost Scott Morrison government.”
