Why potatoes are the latest vegetable set to take a price hike
Potatoes are tipped to be the next staple vegetable to soar in price after a tough wet season.
Farmers say prices could jump by at least 30 per cent, meaning four kilograms of potatoes would set you back $12.
Lockyer Valley Growers Association President Michael Siptle says supply shortages will continue for some time.
“From what I’m hearing out of the south, their supply is drying up,” he told Laurel, Gary and Mark.
“We would normally would be coming into our potato harvest in the Lockyer Valley very soon but sadly, not a lot went into the ground here either.
“It’s winter; things don’t grow well in the winter. This could happen for quite a while.”
