A child psychologist says today’s parents are facing an uphill battle when it comes to getting their kids off screens and back into the real world.

The video game Fortnite is particularly popular and now has in excess of 200 million registered players worldwide – 60 per cent more than it had in June.

But it’s not just the game that some players are addicted to.

Child psychologist DrĀ Justin Coulson tells Michael McLaren these kinds of video games are “completely enveloping” kids.

“There are basic psychological needs that these games meet that can’t be met nearly as well in the real world,” he says.

“Parents have really got their work cut out for them.

“If they do want to get those kids outside riding their bikes, going down to the park or the beach, it’s much harder than it was 20 years ago.”
