A lawyer has explained the sentencing of a woman who killed her two young daughters after leaving them in a scorching hot car in 2019. 

Kerri-Ann Conley was initially charged with murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter, receiving a sentence of nine years behind bars.

Due to time served, she’s eligible for parole in November 2024.

Former Queensland Law Society president Bill Potts told Sofie Formica several factors were considered in her sentencing.

“The judge’s balanced her age, her relationship, her addiction, her behaviour in prison since then,” he said.

“Whilst I suspect she will hopefully suffer her conscience every single day she draws breath, I think he tried to do his best to balance those difficult things.”
