Why Jacinta Price doubts the Alice Springs alcohol report will be effective

The Prime Minister says he’s yet to receive a report outlining the problems facing Alice Springs.

The remote city has been gripped by a wave of alcohol-fuelled violence in recent months.

A report on the matter is due to be handed to the Northern Territory and federal government today.

Northern Territory senator Jacinta Price told Sofie Formica she’s doubtful the report will be of much help.

“I don’t know how effective a report being written up over just a few days is going to bring about the sort of findings that are going to be effective,” she said.

“A lot of the experts on the ground, the organisations that have already reached out to the government have the expertise, have the understanding, have the knowledge of what’s going on.

“The answers are there. The answers are already there, they exist. As far as us community leaders are concerned, we’re just not being listened to.

“There’s so many different initiatives that can be put into plan, put into play in an instant.”
