Commentator and former professional tennis player Liz Smylie says it would be fitting if world number one Ash Barty won the Australian Open.

This year marks 100 years since Margaret Molesworth won the first Women’s Australian Open in 1922, and women have played at the tournament.

“Remember, everyone is in the same boat at this time of year, we haven’t played that much competitive tennis and she looks good, and she certainly looked great last night,” she said on Wide World of Sports.

“It’s just a joy to watch Ash play, she’s got variety, she’s got all the skills, she’s the number one player in the world and she’s an Aussie, how lucky are we!”
