Why farms are facing a worker shortage despite domestic recruits 

Agriculture groups want all states and territories to move toward more flexible quarantine arrangements as vaccination rates increase.

There are fears of a peak staff shortage of 11,000 workers if international borders remain closed early next year.

Farm worker Heidi Morris told Neil Breen there’s a worker shortage at the best of times, but now even Australians can’t work.

“There’s problems being created on problems and it’s just getting really hard.

“I’ve got around 300 plus people … and some of them can’t even cross the border.

“We’ve got people in our own backyard, why can’t we help our own Aussies first?”
