The cost of domestic airfares have shot up in recent times as the local aviation and tourism industry seeks to rebuild after a tumultuous two years.

There are reports airfares are the expensive they’ve been since December 2020.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council chief executive Daniel Gschwind says prices have undoubtedly gone up.

“The airlines have done it pretty tough as well it must be said, we heard from Alan Joyce recently that he was weeks away from going bankrupt with Qantas during the height of the pandemic.

“It was a very difficult circumstance to manage.

“Look they are subject to demand and supply, like any other business has to I guess respond to what they can deliver.

“The prices have gone up, so the stats tell us.”

He says the impact of rising fuel costs and increasing costs to businesses are also factors.
