Swimming legend Dawn Fraser has had an award named in her honour as part of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame celebrations.

The Dawn Award will recognise “a courageous groundbreaker who has demonstrated achievement against the odds and challenged the status quo”.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist told Neil Breen she was overwhelmed to receive the call.

“I had to stop talking … because I became very emotional about it and had to ring back a couple of hours later!

“To think I was still alive and being asked if I’d have an award named after me, I thought that was very gracious.”
