Last-minute shoppers will need to look a little closer at opening hours this year as shopping centres ditch Christmas schedules. 

Westfield Chermside has become known for its overnight shopping events in the lead-up to Christmas, opening for 48 hours straight.

“That hasn’t happened since before COVID, National Retailers Association interim CEO Lindsey Carroll told Spencer Howson on 4BC Summer Breakfast.

“COVID really killed off those types of shopping events and with the uncertainty over recent years, it hasn’t come back quite yet.”

Ms Carroll said it’s not certain whether overnight shopping will return next year.
