Why a tropical cyclone forming off the east coast won’t cause Qld trouble

4bc breakfast

Queensland has avoided the worst of Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle, which has developed into a category two system over the Coral Sea.

Early Warning Network forecaster Justin Noonan told Laurel & Mark the system is unlikely to reach the Queensland coast.

“Topical cyclones have a mind of their own and they can deviate quite dramatically,” he said.

“However, if that upper trough wasn’t there, it would probably continue on its west-south-westerly path into central Queensland.

“But thankfully, we don’t have to worry about that this time.”
