The state government has opened consultation on the next phase of its single-use plastic ban to the public.

A variety of single-use plastic items, such as straws, cutlery and plates were banned from being sold and used in September.

Now, the government is considering what items can be added to the ban next.

The restriction could be expanded to include coffee cups and lids, plastic drinking cups, plastic wrapping on newspapers, produce bags and bread tags.

Submissions will close on January 28 next year.
