Queenslanders should be familiar with the risks of wet weather ahead of the third consecutive La Niña season.

SES Queensland director Glenn Alderton told Neil Breen that residents should avoid calls to emergency services unless absolutely necessary. Instead, they should take their own precautions.

“The more preparations you put in place yourself, the less reason there is to call the SES,” he said.

Mr Alderton also encouraged communities to band together, and provide particular support to new residents.

“A community that prepares together recovers  [more quickly],” he said.
