‘We want to go a lot further’: Hundreds of planes redirected over bay

Peter Fegan

Hundreds of planes are being redirected over Moreton Bay in a bid to reduce aircraft noise in Brisbane suburbs.

More than 800 planes have been redirected over the bay since the opening of Brisbane Airport’s second runway in July 2020.

Brisbane Airport Corporation spokesperson Stephen Beckett told Laurel, Gary & Mark it’s good news but admits work needs to be done.

“We absolutely know that noise is an issue for local residents,” he said. “Like you, Laurel, I live directly under the flight path.

“I live it, I understand it, and I want to work really, really hard with everybody to make sure we reduce the impact on the community.

“One of the great things we’ve seen our of Airservices today is that they have been able to improve how often … aircrafts come in and depart over the bay.

“That’s a good thing and an improvement but still, we want to go a lot further than that.”
