‘We should all know’: Neil Breen wants answers on Wellcamp quarantine facility
Neil Breen says the public deserves answers on how much the Wellcamp quarantine facility is costing taxpayers.
The state government hasn’t revealed how much they contributed to the site because the financial agreements of the site are ‘commercial-in-confidence’.
There’s growing concern the facility may be a white elephant as the state moves beyond the need for a purpose-built quarantine site.
Domestic border restrictions have been lifted ahead of Queensland reaching its 90 per cent COVID-19 vaccination milestone.
Likewise, the state government has previously flagged international travel restrictions will ease once this target is reached.
“The government is still working out who will use it,” Neil Breen said.
“While the government’s working out who will use it, the public has been left trying to work out who’s going to pay for it.
“There should be no such thing as ‘commercial-in-confidence’ when taxpayer funds are used to pay for a facility, or part thereof, that is for a public health measure in a pandemic.
“This isn’t some private operation – … this is a public thing, the battle against the pandemic. We should know all about it.”
