‘Way over the top’: Neil Breen questions government’s ‘spin doctor’ team

Neil Breen has questioned the size of the state government’s media department, slamming the number of “spin doctors” as over the top.
It comes after a renowned political reporter Lane Calcutt reportedly joined Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s team, according to The Australian newspaper.
“One of the things this Labor government has been very keen on doing is recruiting high-profile journalists to join their media team,” Neil said.
“Why? Well they are skilled operators, that’s one.
“Two, it takes them out of the government, makes them a friendly, doesn’t it?
“And we know this government has been combative with the media and doesn’t like criticism, they seem to fail to understand none of it is personal … the media’s job is to scrutinise and to put questions on leaders.”
He said it was interesting then to read reports that the Premier’s social media numbers have “tanked” since the height of the pandemic.
He said it’s “way over the top to have that many spin doctors”.
