WATCH | Outback Spectacular team’s gruelling rescue of 23 horses stuck in floodwaters

The Australian Outback Spectacular team has carried out an gruelling rescue mission to save a herd of horses in floodwaters.

Late yesterday, the Sea World Helicopters team flew eight stockmen and women and an equine vet to Ballina to walk and wade 23 horses through waste-deep floodwaters to higher ground.

Nine News reporter Mackenzie Colahan told Sofie Formica it was around a one-kilometre slog to get the herd to safety.

“The owner of the horses almost breaks down, she hugs the rescuers and she opens up and straight out says ‘Look, they would have died tomorrow if it wasn’t for you guys’.”
