Beloved radio star Paul B Kidd has died after a protracted illness.

Beginning as 2UE’s fishing and boating commentator, Paul B became a regular guest on the weekend, which he ultimately came to host alongside George Moore from 2001.

The duo would go on to share (and dominate) the airwaves for 20 years, many of those on 2GB and 4BC.

Paul B battled cancer and heart issues in his later years, including a cardiac episode in 2018.

“You just know, you just know, John, when something’s working,” George Moore said to John Stanley. “You know deep down inside that you’ve got a chemistry.

“We were so, so different to each other but, and here’s the thing many people probably don’t know, … our childhoods had a lot of similarities.”

“I think the way you could put it is his big heart just gave out yesterday afternoon,” John Stanley said.

“He was a larger than life character, I had the joy of working with him the last couple of years.”

Dr Ross Walker, host of Healthy Living, told John Stanley he counted Paul among his “best mates” for many years.

“It’s just pretty devastating, mate,” Dr Walker said. “Paul was such a wonderful person, he had a beautiful sense of humour.

“He used to laugh at my jokes, which showed he had some problems.”

But what did the ‘B’ in Paul B Kidd stand for?

“He was always a bit cagey about this,” close friend and entertainment reporter Craig Bennett said.

He revealed the answer to Mark Levy.
