A disturbing study has revealed the deaths of 23 children could’ve been prevented if they were vaccinated.

The Sydney University study reports the deaths, which were recorded over ten years, were mostly connected to influenza and meningococcal.

NSW Health’s Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, tells Chris Kenny new parents must stick to vaccination schedules.

“The key message to parents is around timeliness.

“We need to focus on the baby getting vaccinated and the vaccines occurring on time.”

Dr Chant says it’s also important to focus on maternal vaccinations.

“We need to advise pregnant women about the safety of vaccines and the importance of getting vaccinated in pregnancy.”
