‘Utterly, utterly wonderful’: Pub Choir founder over the moon after Kate Bush message

A Brisbane woman has been left feeling like she’s made a deal with God after receiving the seal of approval from the legendary Kate Bush.
On a Wednesday night last month, Pub Choir maestro Astrid Jorgensen led a packed Fortitude Music Hall through a stunning rendition of Running Up That Hill.
It comes as the ’80s classic goes through a global renaissance, thanks to its inclusion in Netflix’s Stranger Things, which launched the song back into the charts.
“Pub Choir is just where regular people buy a ticket, rock up to the show, and I teach them the song on the night,” Ms Jorgensen told Laurel, Gary and Mark.
“At the show, I kind of let the audience know that this was rare that Kate Bush gave us permission to sing the song.
“She’s notoriously quite reclusive and doesn’t say yes to many requests.”
Pub Choir’s rendition was impressive enough to catch the attention of the elusive songstress, who within weeks, had written the group a personal message.
“Yesterday, I got this email, it was from her publishers but they said, ‘We thought you might like to know that Kate has written you a personal message. See below’,” Ms Jorgensen continued.
“It’s the kind of CC email you want to be on!”
