A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being found unconscious near the Gold Coast Highway.

Around 3.35am, a member of the public was driving along the highway when they noticed an unconscious man on a grassed area near the roadside.

He was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

A car has since been seized by police in relation to the incident.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage of the area.
