An alleged joyride on the M1 overnight has left two teens in hospital and another three with injuries.

Initial investigations indicate the car, which was allegedly stolen from Palm Beach yesterday afternoon, was travelling northbound on the M1 in the early hours of this morning.

Police believe the driver lost control when the car allegedly clipped the back of a truck north of Smith Street at Gaven.

The car hit a barrier and caught fire.

Police say five juveniles who were in the car at the time, two 14-year-old girls and three boys, aged 12, 13 and 14, were injured.

The 12-year-old boy and one of the 14-year-old girls were taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.
