Two police officers knocked out in Gold Coast’s party precinct this weekend
A man has been charged over the second serious assault of a police officer on the Gold Coast at the weekend.
At 9.20 last night, police were patrolling the Surfers Paradise Safe Night Precinct on Orchid Avenue.
A man who was the subject of a weapons check allegedly struck a male officer in the face, rendering him unconscious.
The 34-year-old Surfers Paradise Senior Constable sustained serious facial injuries and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
The 28-year-old Victoria man resisted arrest but was ultimately taken into custody and charged with a number of offences.
He has been denied police bail and will appear in Southport Magistrates Court today.
It follows a separate incident on Saturday night, where a 21-year-old Coomera man allegedly struck a male Senior Constable in the back of the head, rendering him unconscious and other officer suffered facial injuries during the incident.
Both officers, aged in their 40s, were transported to hospital and have since been discharged.
Two men were charged over the incident but have since been granted police bail.
