Two men taken into custody after boy struck in hit-and-run

Two men have been arrested after a 12-year-old boy was struck by a car that reportedly ran a red light in Brisbane’s south.

Police say the driver of an unregistered green Holden Commodore failed to stop for highway patrol officers conducting registration checks in Macgregor yesterday afternoon.

The sedan was seen driving through a red light at the intersection of Mains Road and Cosmic Street, where the boy was crossing the road on a bicycle with his brother and father.

The 12-year-old was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital with a head injury, where he remains in a stable condition.

Footage of the incident showed the boy’s bicycle flung across the road in two pieces before the driver of the Commodore and his passenger flee on foot.

Police attended a Woodridge residence today and arrested a 24-year-old and 19-year-old, both from Wynnum West.
