Twelve members of religious group to front court today over child’s death

A dozen people are preparing to front court today, charged with murder over the death of a young girl in Toowoomba earlier this year.
Police allege 8-year-old Elizabeth Struhs died in January after she was denied medication for type 1 diabetes for around six days.
Five men and seven women, who are members of a religious group, are accused of not seeking medical assistance for the girl, despite being aware of her condition.
All twelve have been held in custody to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on July 6.
A 47-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man were charged on January 11 with murder, torture and fail to comply with necessities of life in relation to Elizabeth’s death.
Nine News reporter Annie Pullar told Spencer Howson it’s been a unique case for police.
“To be able to gather the evidence, to be able to prove they somehow had a part to play, I think that has been the most challenging aspect,” she said.
“Clearly police believe they do have the evidence against these 12 people.”
