Channel 7’s Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta has joined the Australian Army Reserves.

He now works at the Victoria Barracks in Paddington, Sydney and denies he gets any special treatment as a result of his status.

Mr Beretta tells Natalie Peters and Erin Molan the recruitment process was unlike anything he has experienced, describing it as “rigorous”.

He confesses he has wanted to join the army since he was in school.

“My career took me on a different path but it’s always been in the back of my mind.

“It’s so different to anything I do at the moment. I love what I do… but I really just wanted to step away and be part of the team.

“I walk in the door there and I’m just another guy doing my job.”
