Turia Pitt has launched a campaign to help businesses impacted by bushfires get back on their feet.

In 2011, Turia survived horrific injuries sustained when she was caught up in a grassfire while competing in an ultramarathon in Western Australia.

Now, she’s dedicated her life to helping others as a motivational speaker and author. Following recent bushfires across Australia, Turia has created the Instagram page Spend With Them.

Inspired by the #BuyFromTheBush drought campaign, Turia is encouraging people to buy products from fire-affected businesses.

She tells Natalie Peters and Erin Molan the response so far has been “heartwarming”.

“It’s the busiest time of year for a lot of local businesses but there’s no tourists down here at the moment, and I think that’s why I came up with the idea.

“People are always wanting to help… and this is just another way they can do that.”

She has also offered her advice to those who are currently going through the darkest moment of their lives.

“If they can just take it one day at a time, or one step at a time, or one hour at a time, I think they will find that will help them a lot.”
