Treasurer dismisses mining giant’s warning over new tax scheme

Treasurer Cameron Dick has hit back at criticism levelled at the Queensland government by mining giant BHP over its new coal royalties scheme.
The state government announced the new tax scheme in the budget last month, which would increase royalty rates on coal.
BHP has slammed the move saying it puts jobs at risk and will divert investment away from the Sunshine State.
But Treasurer Cameron Dick says it was a predictable blow-up from the mining company.
“I expect BHP to complain because we are taking some of their windfall profits,” he told Peter Fegan on Brisbane Live.
“They might try and make it sound like they will stop investing, they will try and make us change our mind but the reality is BHP is getting out of coal.”
He says he won’t “cop a campaign of misinformation from BHP”.
