Two bodies have been found in a search for two men missing in flood-ravaged Townsville.

The discovery was made as floodwaters receded in a large open stormwater drain running through the Aitkenvale Park, behind a public library.

It’s the same area where police had been searching for two missing men aged in their 20s.

The pair went missing just after an attempted break-in at a liquor store on Monday.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has visited affected communities as the clean-up effort begins.

He says the Commonwealth will provide Category C disaster assistance.

With the Bruce Highway now open, freight trucks have been able to deliver fresh food to the area.

Labor Member for Herbert Cathy O’Toole tells Ross Greenwood “it’s been absolutely devastating”.

“So many people have has massively severe flooding through their house.

“I was evacuated from my own home. I was lucky, we only had a garage and a shed that flooded,

“My mother who lives next to me, she’s 85, she had her house completely flooded and that’s the story for many many people.”
