‘Tough it out’: Straddie businesses struggle to fill shifts as tourists return

Businesses on North Stradbroke Island are battling to find staff, some even resorting to recruit from the mainland to fill shifts.
John Truman, who owns the Blue Room and Green Room, says he’s never had a situation like this.
“We’ve never had a problem, but COVID brought on a lot of issues ta a lot of businesses have had to deal with.”
“Unless we probably get that international contingent coming back into the country it will be hard to get workers.”
He knows of other businesses who have had to recruit staff from the mainland.
He said they will have to “tough it out” and adapt, just like every other business.
