An estimated 1.7 million Australians have diabetes, with close to 300 people developing the chronic condition every day – one person every five minutes.

But up to 500,000 of them are living with undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes.

28-year-old Michelle was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was five years old.

She tells Chris Smith her parents realised something was wrong when they noticed her drinking a lot of water and losing a lot of weight.

A recent survey has found many diabetes sufferers are using incorrect injection techniques.

More than 403,000 Australians with diabetes require insulin therapy.

Professor Glen Maberly tells Chris Smith only 44 per cent are using the recommended shorter needles, half are re-using their needles and 46 per cent aren’t changing the injection site each time.
