Tony Abbott: ‘The one thing I’d love to see from Malcolm’
Tony Abbott has responded to Malcolm Turnbull’s “miserable ghost” sledge, saying there’s only “one thing” he’d love to see from the self-exiled former prime minister.
Mr Turnbull’s insult was recorded during an address to young leaders in New York, more than a month after he was ousted as PM.
“When you stop being prime minister, that’s it. There is no way I’d be hanging around like embittered Kevin Rudd or Tony Abbott.
“Seriously, these people are like, sort of miserable, miserable ghosts. Move on,” he said.
Dear Malcolm. A quick reality check on “miserable ghosts”: 1st, having told the world you’ve left politics behind, you seem to be in the media every day talking about it. 2nd, in case you didn’t notice, I left parliament for NYC 5 years ago. Why not come over for a cuppa? pic.twitter.com/1hjeIJLnDJ

Speaking with Ray Hadley, Mr Abbott chose to take the higher ground.
“Well, I don’t call people names generally speaking Ray. I’m not going to engage in a slanging match here.
“The one thing that I would like to see from Malcolm this week is a Tweet from New York endorsing Dave Sharma.
“I reckon he owes it to the party, and to the people of Wentworth, to give Dave Sharma a solid, clear, personal endorsement.”

Mr Abbott also commented on the latest Newspoll result, saying the Coalition is finally heading in the right direction.
The government has clawed back some support, but Labor is still in front 53 to 47 per cent after preferences.
“I certainly think the government is in better shape now than it was a few months ago.”
