Toddler killed by family dog
8.40AM UPDATE
A toddler bitten on the face by the family dog has died in Victoria.
The girl, aged 14 months, was attacked by the German Wirehaired Pointer (breed pictured above) at about 6.20am at their Gippsland home, east of Melbourne.
An air ambulance landed nearby about 8am but the girl tragically died.
“Mum tried to intervene and couldn’t do anything,” Channel Seven reporter Michael Scanlan told Macquarie Radio from the scene.
The dog has been seized by the local council.
German Wirehaired Pointers are not known as a particularly aggressive dog.
Police will investigate the circumstances of the attack and prepare a report for the coroner.
