Federal Police are today announcing a major assault on Italian mafia clans in an organised crime breakthrough. 

It’s estimated there are as many as 5000 mafia members smuggling tonnes of illicit drugs and laundering billions of dollars each year in Australia.

There have been 51 alleged Italian criminal clans identified around the country, including two in Queensland.
