Thousands flock to the CBD for Invasion Day rally

Carla Bignasca

Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Brisbane as part of an ‘Invasion Day’ rally.

Braving the heat, the crowd marched from Queens Gardens to Musgrave Park, where speeches have been heard.

Reporter Josh Bavas has told Sofie Formica more people have attended this year.

“We’ve got a younger crowd, I would say, this year, compared to previous years,” he said. “There are a number of Elders here, present.

“Mostly, they’re all well-behaved; there’s a strong police presence as well but the crowd’s generally well-behaved.”

Invasion Day rallies have been held right across the country today, highlighting the disparity between indigenous and non indigenous as well as aboriginal deaths in custody.
