‘There was one lowlight in all of this and I for the life of me can’t understand it’

Ray Hadley has condemned the “undignified” prank pulled by an FM radio station during Steve Smith’s apology media conference.

After the broken and distraught Australian cricket captain apologised for his part in the ball tampering scandal, he humbly allowed questions from the media.

That’s when one”dickhead” destroyed the moment for a selfish publicity grab on behalf of his radio show.

Ray has called the incident a disgrace but refused to name those involved, so they don’t get the fame they so desperately crave.

“In all the years I’ve been doing what I do, I have never seen a more public and sincere apology than what was offered by Steve Smith and Cameron Bancroft last night.

“There was one lowlight in all of this and I for the life of me can’t understand it.

“I work in AM radio and we like to have a bit of fun. But there seems to be an art of one-upmanship when it comes to FM radio.

“I don’t know the bloke involved, he might be a nice bloke, but gee he carried on like a complete dickhead last night if you’ll pardon the expression.

“He tried to grab his 15 seconds of fame by making a complete goose of himself in a very undignified way, at what was a very very serious moment.”
