The ‘simple message’ behind QPS Operation Charger

Spencer Howson

Police are reminding motorists to be safe on the roads this festive season after nabbing a number of drunk drivers this weekend.

Queensland police will be out in force this summer, with Operation Charger in full swing until January 27.

Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Stream told Spencer Howson it’s a three-phase operation to target drink and drug driving, speeding, and finally, back-to-school 40 zones.

“We conducted several thousands random breath tests, as well as random drug tests across the weekend,” he said.

“We detected people doing the wrong thing, acting selfishly and we’ve had positive tests results.

“Some of those positive test results were at crash scenes.”

He said they will target drink drivers, speeding and proper use of restraints.

“Our message is simple: if you’re planning to drink, don’t drive; and if you’re planning to drive, don’t drink.”
