Engineers at Monash University have developed a water-based battery that could help households store roof-top solar energy more safely, cheaply and more efficiently than ever before.

Head of Materials Science and Engineering at Monash University Professor Matthew Hill told 4BC Drive host Dean Miller, “The water is like salt water, he salts move from one side to the other, that’s what carries the electricity.”

“We’ve been working on this for 3-4 years, like a lot of research you fail most of the time and eventually you work out what you’re doing wrong, we’ve got a system that we’re pretty excited about,” Hill continued.
