The massive shake-up on the cards for Caxton Street
The famous Caxton Street could undergo its biggest change in more than a century under a plan that’s attracted the support of all levels of government.
Local business owners are submitting plans to Brisbane City Council that would see the street closed to traffic permanently, creating a pedestrian mall from Petrie Terrace to Suncorp Stadium.
Nine News reporter Peter Fegan told Laurel, Gary & Mark the business owners are concerned about being “left behind” when the Olympics roll in.
“Next year, you’ve got the Dolphins and the Broncos playing at Suncorp,” he said. “Imagine how many games you’re going to have there.
“What they’re asking for is, I think, pretty reasonable and I think they’ll get it.
“I think what they’ll turn it into, with that gateway down to the Barracks and then down into Roma Street, I think it’s fantastic for Brisbane!”
